Gus Hoyas
Mr. Hoyas is the Chief Executive Officer of The Hoyas Insurance Group, a leading insurance brokerage firm based in Cleveland, Ohio. The firm specializes in Commercial Business Insurance, as well as Life, Property, and Casualty products. Under his leadership, the organization has built a reputation for delivering tailored insurance solutions that meet the unique and evolving needs of business clients.
In addition to his work in insurance, Mr. Hoyas has expanded his business portfolio over the past 15 years into the Real Estate and Construction industries. He currently leads GAHA Holdings, Inc., a property management company, and Alto FSI Ltd., an insulation and firestopping company focused on healthcare and industrial construction projects.
Mr. Hoyas began his professional career in 1992 with The Allstate Insurance Company as a Computer Operations Manager Trainee. He progressed rapidly within the company, ultimately serving as the State Territory Manager for Michigan, where he achieved a ranking in the top 10% nationwide for sales performance.
In 2003, Mr. Hoyas returned to Columbus, Ohio, to join Nationwide Insurance Company as a Regional Sales and Operations Consultant. Over the next five years, he earned two fast-track promotions, ultimately becoming the State Sales Director for Ohio and West Virginia. During this time, he led the region to a 1,000% increase in revenue and more than doubled the size of his team.
In 2008, driven by his entrepreneurial spirit, Mr. Hoyas left his high-six-figure corporate position to purchase a small insurance agency in Twinsburg, Ohio. Through focused leadership, strategic restructuring, and a commitment to excellence, he grew the agency from $1.2 million to $8 million in revenue over 10 years. His efforts included creating a high-performing team and segmenting the agency into specialized units for sales and service, resulting in 150% growth.Mr. Hoyas is also a tremendous advocate for the success of small and minority-owned businesses, especially in the construction sector. His passion for creating equitable opportunities led him to co-found the Hispanic Construction Council, an organization dedicated to addressing the challenges faced by Hispanic contractors and the broader workforce. He is also the former President of the Hispanic Contractors Association of Cleveland, where he worked to promote representation, access to resources, and community growth within the industry.
