Dr. Jose A. Jurado
Jose A. Jurado is a Senior Research Economist at the Seidman Research Institute. Dr. Jurado joined Seidman in February 2023 from Carnegie Mellon University, where he worked as a postdoctoral research fellow. Previously, he worked as an economist at Banco de México’s research division.
Dr. Jurado currently serves as the P.I. on a study for Chicanos por la Causa, focusing on the socio-economic mobility of Latinos in the State of Arizona. He has also served as P.I. on two previous installments of the Official U.S. Latino GDP Report™ in partnership with the Latino Donor Collaborative. He is passionate about U.S.-Mexico bilateral security issues and racial disparities in policing in the U.S.
His work has been published in the Journal of Development Economics and was awarded first place in the 2022 edition of the Victor L. Urquidi prize in economics for best research paper focused on Mexico. Dr. Jurado earned a Ph.D. in economics from Brown University in 2021.
